Service on a nonprofit board is often likened to a “team sport” because effective governance requires collaboration, shared goals, and coordinated efforts among board members, as well as a strong partnership with the organization’s staff.
While the primary focus will be on helping boards govern more effectively, this fun and interactive session will underscore the importance of working together to achieve shared goals and maximize the organization’s impact.

This workshop is targeted toward Board leaders and the staff members who interact with and support the Board and its committees. - Established governance best practices—tips and tricks to make board meetings more effective and to ensure the board committees are contributing to the overall work of the board and the organization
- The Executive Director/CEO’s partnership with the Board is built on a foundation of trust, strong communications, and alignment on the mission, vision, and strategic goals
- Keys to shared leadership by the Executive Director/CEO and Board Chair with understanding and respect for roles and boundaries
- Role clarity, including agreement on job descriptions for volunteer leadership roles, committee charters, and engagement with staff
- Building a positive board culture where members are actively engaged, strive to be good teammates, and provide support for financial oversight and stewardship
- Ways to utilize regular self-evaluation of the board’s performance and effectiveness to set priorities for board growth and development
About the Presenter
Rose Snyder, ACC, CPIC, OCC; She/her
Rose Snyder is passionate about helping people and organizations thrive. With a Master’s in Organizational Management and a Bachelor’s in Education, she combines academic grounding with decades of real-world leadership experience. Rose is certified by BoardSource as a Nonprofit Governance Consultant and is one of only a small number of practitioners worldwide trained in Psycho-geometrics® (Shapes) communication. She is a certified leadership coach through the International Coaching Federation, with additional certifications in Emotional Intelligence, Positive Intelligence, and Organizational Culture Coaching from The Maslow Research Center. Rose is also completing her certification in Systems Thinking facilitation through the Waters Center, further deepening her systems-aware approach to organizational learning.
Rose has inspired nonprofit leaders across the country and delivered culture and team-building experiences to global corporations. Her leadership in the Olympic sport world—spanning USA Swimming, U.S. Figure Skating, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee—gives her a rare ability to coach executives, boards, and teams toward elite-level performance. Her work centers on team building, communication, culture transformation, and leadership coaching, with Psycho-geometrics® as a cornerstone methodology. Rose lives in Tucson with her husband, Charlie, and is a proud University of Arizona graduate. They have three adult children and love exploring new places together.
