Frequently Asked Questions

When is the next open application cycle?
CFSA’s Community Impact Team determines grant opportunities each year. Please visit our Grant Directory page for up-to-date information.

How will I know when CFSA and its partners have grant rounds?
Stay informed by signing up for our emails and following CFSA on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Our organization received an unsolicited grant from a donor-advised fund. Can we apply directly to that fund for another grant?
The unsolicited grant was a donation from a donor, not part of a formal grant round. We recommend sending a thank-you note and, if appropriate, a report on how the funds were used. Please mail it directly to CFSA, and we will forward it to the donor.

Will CFSA review a draft of our proposal and offer suggestions?
Due to the high volume of requests, CFSA cannot review drafts or provide feedback on proposals.

How often can we apply for a grant?
The frequency of applications depends on the specific opportunities available and the guidelines for each funding opportunity. Please visit our Grant Directory page for up-to-date information.

Does CFSA support capital campaigns?
Capital campaign funding may be available through some donor-advised funds. Our competitive grant programs do not fund capital campaigns.

What if I have an urgent project?
CFSA does not have an emergency fund available for urgent projects.

My group does not have tax-exempt status. Can I still apply?
Applicants must be a 501(c)3 in good standing or apply using a fiscal sponsor with 501(c )3 status. Applicants must provide proof of agreement with the fiscal sponsor.
